My Hormonology

Which week are you on
in your monthly cycle?
Find out what it reveals about
what your weekend has in store:

Week 1
Day 1 (first day of period) to Day 7
Estrogen and testosterone rise
This weekend’s Hormone Horoscope: Rising estrogen is boosting brain chemicals that make you feel more optimistic. While this is usually a good thing, it could also mean that you put too much trust into what a car mechanic says about your car needing repairs, you may sign up for a class or volunteer project even though you’re already short on time or you may set unrealistic exercise goals. Before making big decisions, take a moment to think about a more realistic version of what you plan to do (for instance, instead of trusting the car mechanic, get a second opinion; before giving away more of your time, check your schedule to see how much free time you really have to spare; or scale back your exercise goal to something more easily achievable).

Week 2
Day 8 to Day 13
Estrogen and testosterone rise till they peak
This weekend’s Hormone Horoscope: If you’re not doing something fun this weekend, high estrogen and testosterone could have you feeling resentful or irritable about being stuck indoors, doing work or being chained to whatever else is keeping you from a good time. This goes double when you hear about friends who are going off and having fun without you!

Week 3
Day 14 (or ovulation) to Day 22
Progesterone rises; estrogen and testosterone drop for half the week, then rise again
This weekend’s Hormone Horoscope: Be sure to not let yourself go hungry, Week 3 gal: Rising progesterone can make your blood sugar drop faster than during other weeks of your cycle, resulting in confusion, fatigue and irritability when you ignore hunger pangs. Eating small meals throughout the day or nibbling a protein-rich snack, like string cheese or nuts, will help even out your blood sugar and keep your brain sharp and energy up and prevent your mood from suddenly going south.

Week 4
Day 23 to the end of cycle
Estrogen, testosterone and progesterone plunge
This weekend’s Hormone Horoscope: You may find it more difficult to get comfortable this weekend, for instance, a restaurant chair might feel too hard, your shoes might feel too tight or a sweater may feel a bit scratchy. The problem is descending estrogen. As this hormone plunges it makes you more sensitive to anything that causes aches, pains and discomfort.
