My HormonologyWhich week are you on in your monthly cycle? Find out what it reveals about what your day has in store:

Week 1
Day 1 (first day of period) to Day 7
Estrogen rises
This weekend’s Hormone Horoscope: As your Week 1 goes on, you may get a flash of inspiration, come up the exact solution you need for a nagging problem or see a project in a new way, prompting you to take it in a new direction. Credit for your insights goes to rising estrogen, which makes your brain work faster and more accurately as it climbs.

Week 2
Day 8 to Day 14 or ovulation (here’s how to tell when you’re ovulating)
Estrogen and testosterone rise till they peak
This weekend’s Hormone Horoscope: I just want to remind you that your Week 2 only comes around once a month. And a Week 2 weekend is like a gift from the hormone gods. So, take advantage of your high estrogen and testosterone energy, chattiness, extroversion and desire for adventure to put your dull, hum-drum work away and go do something fun, inspiring or totally wacky. If you don’t, by the time Week 3 rolls around and rising progesterone is sapping all these great traits, you may end up kicking yourself!

Week 3
Day 15 (or the day after ovulation) to Day 22
Progesterone rises; estrogen and testosterone drop for half the week, then estrogen rises again
This weekend’s Hormone Horoscope: Rising progesterone coupled with lower levels of estrogen and testosterone are slowing you down and making you more introspective. As a result, you’re enjoying activities that would have bored you in Week 2, like long strolls in the park, sitting by a pond, drawing, writing poetry, taking still life photographs or savoring a delicious meal.

Week 4
Day 23 to the end of cycle
Estrogen and progesterone plunge
This weekend’s Hormone Horoscope: You may end up going on the hunt for the perfect pick-me-up today, such as a more comfortable work chair or a treat you read about in the food section of the newspaper and just have to try. Why? As estrogen plunges, it drags down levels of feel-good chemicals a notch. In response, your brain tends to push you to do activities that will pump up those feel-good chemicals again to balance things out.
