My HormonologyWhich week are you on in your monthly cycle? Find out what it reveals about what your day has in store:

Week 1
Day 1 (first day of period) to Day 7
Estrogen rises
This weekend’s Hormone Horoscope: Don’t waste time, Week 1 gal! Once you get past the achy, tiring parts of your period, rising estrogen in your Week 1 and Week 2 are boosting your energy, confidence and motivation, making any task easier. So, harness this hormone-fueled oomph now to check things off your to-do list. That way, you can sit back and relax once Week 3’s sedating progesterone kicks in, making vegging on the couch seem too irresistible to pass up.

Week 2
Day 8 to Day 14 (or ovulation)
Estrogen and testosterone rise till they peak
This weekend’s Hormone Horoscope: You may consider making a big, new alteration to your lifestyle, for instance, becoming a vegetarian, pursuing a different career or adopting a pet. That’s rising estrogen and testosterone’s influence. As these hormones climb toward their peak, they push you to try something new, break out of ruts and make a change on a grand scale.

Week 3
Day 15 (or the day after ovulation) to Day 22
Progesterone rises; estrogen and testosterone drop for half the week, then estrogen rises again
This weekend’s Hormone Horoscope: Today starts my Week 3–and that’s when I remind myself to take unnecessary to-dos off my task list, expect things to take a tad longer and to poop out sooner. I bring this up because while in your Week 3, you may want to follow suit. That’s because rising progesterone is a hormone that slows you down and tires you out, which means you can’t expect to power through an endless list of tasks like you did in your Week 2 when peaking estrogen and testosterone ratcheted up your energy to cycle-long highs. By focusing only on important tasks, you’ll up your chances of getting more done before sleepy progesterone shuts you down.

Week 4
Day 23 to the end of cycle
Estrogen and progesterone plunge
This weekend’s Hormone Horoscope: You may find yourself turning on a fan because you’re too warm, then turning it off because you’re too cold, putting a pillow behind you as you sit to make your chair softer, then taking it away because it’s too mushy or going back and forth when trying to make yourself comfortable another way. Why so Goldilocks and the Three Bears? Plunging estrogen. As the level of this hormone drops, it makes you more physically sensitive, which can make it difficult to get things just right.
