My HormonologyWhich week are you on in your monthly cycle? Find out what it reveals about what your day has in store:

Week 1
Day 1 (first day of period) to Day 7
Estrogen rises
This weekend’s Hormone Horoscope: If you’ve got ho-hum chores to do, say, cleaning the house or writing a report, you may find that you’re having an inner struggle between tackling those and having fun instead. The reason? If you’ve still got your period, you gravitate toward fun activities as a way to distract yourself from the pain of menstrual cramps. And if you’re past your period, then rising estrogen–a hormone that boosts your desire for fun–is pushing you to let out your silly side.

Week 2
Day 8 to Day 14 (or ovulation)
Estrogen and testosterone rise till they peak
This weekend’s Hormone Horoscope: You may go over the top to prove a point in a discussion this weekend, for instance, using extreme examples, gesticulating wildly, raising your voice or utilizing a prop (or two or five). That’s because high estrogen and testosterone are making you feel super-confident in your views and convictions, making you fairly certain everyone else should be adopting them, too!

Week 3
Day 15 (or the day after ovulation) to Day 22
Progesterone rises; estrogen and testosterone drop for half the week, then estrogen rises again
This weekend’s Hormone Horoscope: You may choose a non-confrontational approach to a problem this weekend, for instance, walking out of a store to avoid an aggressive salesperson rather than asking him to leave you alone or telling a friend you didn’t mind something she did even when it really ticked you off. Why? As estrogen and testosterone fall and progesterone rises, it makes you less comfortable asserting yourself and has you preferring a quieter, less in-your-face solution.

Week 4
Day 23 to the end of cycle
Estrogen and progesterone plunge
This weekend’s Hormone Horoscope: You may find it difficult to make decisions for anything from which meal to order and which outfit to wear to which movie to see and which friends to hang out with. That’s plunging estrogen’s fault. As this hormone descends, it brings down your confidence in your convictions while also making your brain a bit slower at weighing the pros and cons of decisions–a combination that can end up making you a bit waffley.
