My HormonologyWhich week are you on
in your monthly cycle?
Find out what it reveals about
what your weekend has in store:

Week 1
Day 1 (first day of period) to Day 7
Estrogen and testosterone rise
This weekend’s Hormone Horoscope: Careful of too many impulse buys, Week 1 gal! Rising estrogen and testosterone are making you prone to filling your shopping cart with items that cost just a little…but somehow end up turning into one big bill (I recently did this at the “dollar store”–a seriously evil genius retail idea). The problem is that rising estrogen makes you want fun, silly things to match your rising estrogen mood and boost good feelings even more, and rising testosterone makes you more likely to act on any whim. Together, this hormonal duo could have you coming home with a half-dozen new shades of nail polish, a few new gardening tools and kitchen gadgets that do things you never knew kitchen gadgets could do!

Week 2
Day 8 to Day 13
Estrogen and testosterone rise till they peak
This weekend’s Hormone Horoscope: You’ll likely put a lot of thought into details this weekend, especially about what you’re wearing and how you look. As estrogen and testosterone reach their peaks, they give you more mental and physical energy so you have the oomph needed to hone in on small factors on a project or get your hair just right. Plus, these high hormones are making you more concerned with how other see your work or appearance, which motivates you to put more time into getting them perfect.

Week 3
Day 14 (or ovulation) to Day 22
Progesterone rises; estrogen and testosterone drop for half the week, then rise again
This weekend’s Hormone Horoscope: A health concern about yourself or a loved one that you brushed off in Week 2 may come to the forefront this weekend as rising progesterone and lower levels of estrogen combine to make you less cavalier about the problem and more worried that it could be something big. To avoid fretting, talk with friends and family members who may have had a similar health issue or set up an appointment with a doctor, nurse practitioner or other health professional to get an expert opinion.

Week 4
Day 23 to the end of cycle
Estrogen, testosterone and progesterone plunge
This weekend’s Hormone Horoscope: Unlike Week 2 gals, you’re more likely to let details slide this weekend, for instance, you may skip over a couple of (semi-important) instructions while putting together a new bookshelf or head out of the house in a stained t-shirt, no makeup and bedhead (not that I’m saying I did exactly this this morning, but, well, I did). Why? As estrogen plunges, it saps your mental and physical energy, draining your desire to waste whatever little pep you have on something silly like small details. Plus, these plunging hormones are giving you a bit of a “So what?” attitude, making you care less about how people perceive your work or appearance.
