Which week are you on in your cycle?
First day of period to Day 7
Today’s hormone-cast: You’re going to get an extra kick out of jokes, comedies, someone accidentally bumping into a pole and any of the other usual laugh-inducers. Credit for the guffaws goes to rising estrogen, which boosts your feel-good serotonin and endorphins—brain chemicals that amp up your sense of humor.
Day 8 to Day 13
Today’s hormone-cast: You have a can-do attitude courtesy of high energy-pumping, motivation-revving estrogen and testosterone. As a result, when something bugs you, you’re a lot less likely to take it lying down and a lot more likely to do something about it.
Day 14 (or ovulation) to Day 22
Today’s hormone-cast: It’s not your imagination—orgasms really are less intense today. You can put the blame squarely on progesterone. As this hormone rises, it blunts your body’s sexual response, making your climax a lot less “Oh, oh, oh!” and a bit more “Oh!”
Day 23 to the end of cycle
Today’s hormone-cast: Break out your calendar: descending estrogen has you in the mood to schedule an appearance-enhancing indulgence, such as a new haircut, hair color, mani/pedi or facial. (Tip: save the waxing for Week 2, when it’s less likely to hurt thanks to pain-squelching high estrogen.)
