Week 1
First day of period to Day 7
Today’s hormone-cast: With excitement- and optimism-pumping estrogen and testosterone on the rise, you’ll likely feel that good ideas you come up with today seem even better, and that great ideas you come up with need to be pounced on right away. As a result, you may suddenly find yourself heading off in a totally new direction as you do research, make calls, sign up for classes or take on other steps that turn your great idea into reality.

Week 2
Day 8 to Day 13
Today’s hormone-cast: Watch your wallet! Whether you’re shopping in a store or online, high estrogen and testosterone are pumping up your impulsivity, making it easier for you to be taken in by the many, many, many sales tactics used by savvy stores to make you fill your cart.

Week 3
Day 14 (or ovulation) to Day 22
Today’s hormone-cast: As rising progesterone brings out your nurturing side, you may be more inclined to donate to your favorite causes, post prayer requests for a friend on your facebook page or do a favor out of the blue for someone who could use a helping hand.

Week 4
Day 23 to the end of cycle
Today’s hormone-cast: A new study shows that folks who are depressed eat lots of chocolate since the sweet treat contains compounds that temporarily raise the brain’s level of mood-lifting chemicals. I bring this up because you, too, may be drawn toward chocolate cake, ice cream and candy as estrogen plunges, putting you at risk of experiencing a down mood. Not a chocolate fan? Sugary foods of all sorts provide a temporary emotional lift. Plus, they ease aches and discomfort by upping your brain’s output of endorphins, which mask pain.
