My HormonologyWhich week are you on in your cycle?

Week 1
First day of period to Day 7
Today’s hormone-cast: If you’re in a relationship, rising estrogen is making you more willing to overlook your mate’s obvious faults, like the growing pile of dirty laundry left on the floor or an inability to remember to take out the garbage after the umpteenth request. Single? Then rising estrogen is making you more optimistic about your hunt for love, giving you hope that your perfect match is at the next singles mixer, in line behind you at the local cafe or about to post a very first ad on Match.com.

Week 2
Day 8 to Day 13
Today’s hormone-cast: Your powers of persuasion are stellar today thanks to high estrogen and testosterone that make you think fast on your feet and turn you into an eloquent speaker. This makes it a great day to convince a salesperson to come down on a price, pitch your boss a ground-breaking idea or sweet-talk your honey into treating you to a weekend getaway.

Week 3
Day 14 (or ovulation) to Day 22
Today’s hormone-cast: You’re the calm in the center of any storm today. If the fax machine jams, the coffee maker breaks or an important client calls with an impossible request, everyone around you may be all flustered, but you’ll likely be the one to stay cool and collected. You can thank rising progesterone for the anti-anxiety effect. This hormone is eight times more powerful than a common barbituate, though obviously your body pumps it out in much smaller doses.

Week 4
Day 23 to the end of cycle
Today’s hormone-cast: Try to avoid making major life-changing decisions today—such as quitting your job or school, throwing your mate to the curb or breaking your lease. Plunging estrogen is making it easier to focus on the negative aspects of life today and forget about the positives. As a result, you may feel differently about your big decision once Week 1 rolls along and rising estrogen makes you feel satisfied with your job, school, mate and apartment once again.
