My HormonologyWhich week are you on in your cycle?

Week 1
First day of period to Day 7
Today’s hormone-cast: You’re open to experimenting today as rising estrogen piques your curiosity. But, this hormone may not climb high enough to actually push you into trying something totally new. So, you’ll likely be happiest with new twists on old themes, for instance, switching the kind of syrup you pour on your favorite waffles or trying a different color of your favorite lipstick brand.

Week 2
Day 8 to Day 13
Today’s hormone-cast: If you’re hitched, you may have dreams and fantasies about cheating on your mate as high estrogen pushes you to have one more look around to make sure you’re with the right partner. If you’re single, you may be tempted to set up dates with two, three, even five different guys in the same week as high testosterone amps up your boldness and desire to find a love connection.

Week 3
Day 14 (or ovulation) to Day 22
Today’s hormone-cast: Try tackling the boring tasks you’ve been putting off for the past two weeks, like organizing your closet or filing your growing mound of mail. Rising progesterone and lower levels of estrogen are slowing you down so you have more patience doing ho-hum activities this week than when rising estrogen pushed you toward more exciting tasks in the first half of your cycle.

Week 4
Day 23 to the end of cycle
Today’s hormone-cast: If you feel a grumpy PMS moment coming on, try sitting outside in the sun. Just 10 minutes of sunlight is proven to boost feel-good brain chemicals, which plunge during this week of your cycle. What’s more, catching some rays in the warmer months loads you up on vitamin D, which has been shown to help lower your risk of certain cancers, high blood pressure, type-2 diabetes and even obesity.
