Week 1
First day of period to Day 7
Today’s hormonescope: If it’s the first half of Week 1, low-though-rising estrogen and testosterone have you more interested in activities and people that you’re familiar with and know well, or you may even opt to stay home and skip out on fun altogether. But, by the middle of Week 1, estrogen and testosterone rise to a point where you want to break out of the menstrual hut and try something new and entertaining. 

Week 2
Day 8 to Day 13
Today’s hormonescope: You may notice that you’re remembering words and details more easily, you’re typing more accurately, you’re even seeing, smelling, hearing and tasting more sharply. Credit for all the fine tuning comes courtesy of high estrogen and testosterone, which improve body and mind as they climb.

Week 3
Day 14 (or ovulation) to Day 22
Today’s hormonescope: Your credit cards get a breather today as impulsive spending goes down along with plunging testosterone. Unless, however, you see a cute pillow, yummy-smelling candle, perfect picture frame or another item that will spruce up your home. Then rising progesterone, which amps up your urge to nest, will be prodding you to buy them. 

Week 4
Day 23 to the end of cycle
Today’s hormonescope: Put your whatever-cino down and step away from the caffeine! Coffee, Red Bull, black tea and other caffeinated foodstuffs are proven to make premenstrual moodiness and irritation worse. So, try to limit your intake to just enough that you avoid a caffeine headache, but not so much that you inadvertently trigger PMS grumpiness.
