Today’s Hormone Horoscope: Thursday, March 4, 2010

My HormonologyWhich week are you on in your cycle?

Week 1
First day of period to Day 7
Today’s hormone-cast: You may want to make sure a bathroom is always in walking sprinting distance. As progesterone bottoms out this week, it’s triggering the release of extra fluid your body retained during the premenstrual phase so you’re heading off to pee more frequently than usual.

Week 2
Day 8 to Day 13
Today’s hormone-cast: Things take a turn for the purse today as high testosterone makes you impulsive and easily excited by great sales and offers and high estrogen amps up your optimism, making you feel like you’ll be able to pay off the bill someday, somehow.

Week 3
Day 14 (or ovulation) to Day 22
Today’s hormone-cast: Don’t blame your mate or your toy for your lackluster orgasms today. Rising progesterone is a hormone that not only dampens libido and makes it more difficult to reach orgasm, it also makes your climaxes less intense. Luckily, kissing, cuddling and all-over body massages still feel utterly heavenly.

Week 4
Day 23 to the end of cycle
Today’s hormone-cast: Problems may seem more overwhelming and difficult to solve today as plunging estrogen brings down levels of confidence-building serotonin. Before giving up or caving in, try talking with a friend or family member who is known for their listening and advice skills. Can’t figure out which is the best person to lean on? Listen to the sound of their voice. A new study published in the journal PLoS ONE reveals that folks who speak in a melodic sing-song way tend to be better listeners and more empathetic than those who sound more monotone as they speak.
