Which week are you on in your cycle?
First day of period to Day 7
Today’s hormone-cast: An easy way to get motivated to go to work / school / errands today is by thinking of someone you want to flirt with once you get there. A rise in estrogen and testosterone today puts romance on your mind and is giving you the courage to steal a few glimpses and, hey, maybe even a phone number.
Day 8 to Day 13
Today’s hormone-cast: You may notice that you’re giving really, really long-winded answers to questions, talking to yourself, singing out loud and doing anything else to get your gab on. Why are you going all Chatty Cathy? Estrogen! As is climbs, it makes you a lot more verbal. Luckily for everyone around you, this hormone is also making you funnier, it’s helping you remember a lot more details, and it’s prompting you to use higher and lower notes, making you even more interesting to listen to than usual.
Day 14 (or ovulation) to Day 22
Today’s hormone-cast: If you’re looking for creative inspiration, this is the day to get it: sedating progesterone is making you lazy, and scientists say that’s exactly what you need to come up with a brilliant “eureka!” idea. Turns out, our brain works better at coming up with imaginative solutions when we’re giving it a rest.
Day 23 to the end of cycle
Today’s hormone-cast: Plunging estrogen is bringing down the level of your feel-good brain chemical serotonin, which makes you more apt to have a down mood. For a quick pick-me-up, sniff a vanilla-scented candle, dab on vanilla essential oil or simply take a whiff of vanilla extract. Research shows that breathing in the scent of vanilla increases serotonin. On a diet? Additional research shows that the scent of vanilla curbs cravings for sweets, too.
