Which week are you on in your cycle?
First day of period to Day 7
Today’s hormone-cast: Rising estrogen is making you luckier at finding romance, landing a new job and snagging amazing deals. Here’s why: As estrogen rises, you’re more comfortable approaching new people and chatting them up. And 10 years of luck studies prove that the luckiest folks around are those who know lots and lots of folks, says psychologist Richard Wiseman, Ph.D., author of The Luck Factor. The reason? Word of mouth is by far the best way to find out about great opportunities you would have otherwise missed.
Day 8 to Day 13
Today’s hormone-cast: Try to stop stress as soon as it starts either by breathing deeply, distracting yourself with a favorite activity (like an online game or shopping) or listening to soothing music. Today’s high estrogen is known for boosting your mood, but it’s also proven to intensify and prolong stress responses to issues big and small. So, nipping them in the bud is key to avoiding a stomach-churning, sweat-pouring, screech-inducing stressout of epic proportions.
Day 14 (or ovulation) to Day 22
Today’s hormone-cast: You may feel like choosing less risky options today as rising progesterone and lower estrogen make you more concerned about safety. For instance, you may slow down a bit while driving, avoid walking in sketchy areas and back down if confronted rather than stand your ground.
Day 23 to the end of cycle
Today’s hormone-cast: You may end up taking work, family, something someone said or other aspects of your day a little too seriously today. Plunging estrogen is bringing down feel-good brain chemicals, which can make it more difficult to lighten up. Try to remind yourself that today you’re likely seeing the world as a little more grim than it really is or that you may be putting added pressure on yourself by worrying about responsibilities you feel toward other folks that they don’t feel overly concerned about themselves.
