My HormonologyWhich week are you on in your cycle?

Week 1
First day of period to Day 7
Today’s hormonescope: Your curiosity is easily piqued today as rising estrogen urges you to investigate the world around you. As a result, you may click on more links as you surf the web, read more articles in the newspaper or a magazine, grab a flyer for a new restaurant in town or do anything else that gives you more new information you can digest.

Week 2
Day 8 to Day 13
Today’s hormonescope: This is a the perfect week to clear the clutter out of your closets, storage bins and personal life. High estrogen is pumping you full of energy, making it easier to tackle exhausting tasks. Plus, even more importantly, it’s making you less sentimental than during any other week of your cycle. As a result, you’ll feel less emotional about cutting things and people loose, making it easier to part with the shoes that look adorable but give you blisters every time you wear them, the dress that cost a week’s salary but hasn’t fit in three years, mementos from the date you went on with that cutie from two summers ago who you were hoping to run into again, and that frenemy who has a killer networking list but is seriously too high drama to make her worth keeping.

Week 3
Day 14 (or ovulation) to Day 22
Today’s hormonescope: While others may get passionate about a debate, issue or event, you will probably find it hard to get worked up. That’s because this week’s rising progesterone has you feeling quieter, sedate and less interested in blowing your dwindling energy on something as silly as whether vuvuzelas should be banned from the next pool party.

Week 4
Day 23 to the end of cycle
Today’s hormonescope: You may feel like you’ve had enough of an annoying person or problem and want to make a drastic change, such as breaking up or quitting your job. While the issue may be real, descending estrogen is exaggerating your irritation about it because it’s bringing down your bran’s level of the mood-regulating chemical serotonin. Before you make a major decision, consider waiting until Week 1. That’s when estrogen rises again, giving a boost to serotonin. If you’re still as irked by the issue then, go ahead and make your move. You’ll feel more confident and have fewer regrets about it.
