Week 1
First day of period to Day 7

Week 2
Day 8 to Day 13
Today’s hormone-cast: Take the opportunity to push yourself today: try learning a new skill or taking an existing one to a new level, take a class or get a DIY book or log onto ehow.com to tackle a home improvement project. High-and-rising estrogen and testosterone are making it easier to learn new information and giving you the courage to break out of your comfort zone.

Week 3
Day 14 (or ovulation) to Day 22
Today’s hormone-cast: Did you hear that screeching? It’s your body slamming the brakes on the energy, sexual drive and extroversion you had just last week. Now, you’re feeling mellow, slower and more interested in spending time alone or with just one or two close friends instead of a crowd.

Week 4
Day 23 to the end of cycle
Today’s hormone-cast: Getting to sleep or staying asleep will likely be more difficult tonight as plunging estrogen lowers your brain’s level of sleep-regulating serotonin. Luckily, there’s an easy way to help you sleep better: count your blessings. In a recent University of Manchester study, folks who thought about reasons to be thankful, such as having a loving partner, good health or even their pets, fell asleep faster, woke up fewer times and enjoyed higher energy levels during the day than those who didn’t think of reasons to be grateful.
