Today’s Hormone Horoscope: Friday, March 5, 2010

My HormonologyWhich week are you on in your cycle?

Week 1
First day of period to Day 7
Today’s hormone-cast: The energy boost you get from rising estrogen and testosterone today gives you a “second wind” about a project that you’ve been getting bored with or have been tempted to set aside. You’ll also find it easier to dream up new strategies and ways to make this stalled venture work.

Week 2
Day 8 to Day 13
Today’s hormone-cast: High testosterone is making you feel more ambitious, so you may feel like running for some sort of office in your school, organization, neighborhood or condo, bucking for a promotion at work, looking for a job with more authority, or starting your own business.

Week 3
Day 14 (or ovulation) to Day 22
Today’s hormone-cast: As estrogen descends this week, you may be feeling a tad worried about health problems that you swept under the rug during the past two rising estrogen weeks when confidence about your health was high. To put fears to rest and/or find out how to treat achy wrists, a scratchy cough, flaky skin or other minor health woes, log onto WebMD’s Symptom Checker, which analyzes your symptoms and suggests possible causes and treatments.

Week 4
Day 23 to the end of cycle
Today’s hormone-cast: Given a choice between the tried-and-true and something new—for instance, when ordering dinner, picking a TV show or shopping for clothes—you’ll likelier be happier with the thing you’re used to. As estrogen plunges today, you become less open (and subsequently happy about) new experiences while old stand-bys give you comfort that, despite a zig-zaggy PMS mood, everything’s gonna be a-okay.
