First day of period to Day 7
Today’s hormone-cast: Take advantage of your rising estrogen and testosterone to tackle weekend projects. If you start this week, you’ll still have the oomph from next week’s high hormones to get it finished. Put it off till the second week of your cycle and flagging hormones will lower your energy and motivation, making any project way more difficult.
Day 8 to Day 13
Today’s hormone-cast: You may drive the people around you a little crazy as you talk out loud, sing to yourself, chat to your pets or plants or come up with any other way to get your gab on. High estrogen is making you chatty and high confidence-boosting testosterone doesn’t have you the least bit self-conscious about where or how express your verbal side.
Day 14 (or ovulation) to Day 22
Today’s hormone-cast: Here’s what confuses boyfriends and people who you’ve met during the first two weeks of your cycle: Just last week you were chatty, high-energy, adventurous and flirtatious. So, when you suddenly clam up, slow down, play it safe and turn it off, they can’t understand what’s behind the change. You can try explaining to them that rising progesterone and lower levels of estrogen and testosterone affect brain chemicals that moderate mood, energy, confidence and libido. And if that doesn’t work, tell them you’re just hungry and invite them join you in a delicious meal of homey goodies that progesterone has you craving—like fried chicken and biscuits, meatloaf and pot pie.
Day 23 to the end of cycle
Today’s hormone-cast: Here’s the thing about PMS symptoms: they don’t happen to every woman and they can vary in you from cycle to cycle depending on the foods you eat, stress and other things that affect your body’s chemistry. And, while I often focus on PMS moods and aches during Week 4, truth is, PMS is more like the punctuation in the sentence that is this week. That is to say, it pops up here and there, but it’s usually not a steady constant. So, what happens between the PMS symptoms? This week is mellow and low-key, but you’re probobaly not as sleepy as you were last week when sedating progestrone was on the rise. You may have difficulty remembering a few details or words, or lose your train of thought as brain-sharpening estrogen and testosterone plunge. And, your libido returns with a roar as your body prepares for menstruation, stimulating nerve endings down below.
