Week 1
First day of period to Day 7
Today’s hormonescope: You may be dreaming of a fun fall getaway today as rising estrogen and testosterone give you the urge to break out of your routine and make a great escape. If you can manage to get time off, consider taking advantage of last-minute travel deals, for instance, at expedia.com or lastminutetravel.com, which are offered by airlines, hotels and cruises who are willing to unload unsold tickets at rock-bottom prices.  

Week 2
Day 8 to Day 13
Today’s hormonescope: Need a photo taken of yourself, for instance, for your Facebook profile, your Match.com account or to accompany your bio in a brochure? Take it today! High estrogen is making you more attractive than any other week of your cycle by making subtle changes to your face, including evening out your skin tone, making your features slightly more symmetrical, upping the moisture in your skin and giving you a radiant smile. And now there’s an easy way to look up to 7 years younger in your pic: Turn on a lamp and tell whoever’s taking the photo to turn off the camera’s flash. In a recent study from the dating site OKCupid.com, volunteers viewing online photos were convinced that folks in pictures where a flash was used were 7 years older than the subjects’ real ages. The reason? Soft light—for instance, from sun streaming through an open window shade, a candle or lamp—hides wrinkles, fine lines, uneven skin tone and blemishes while the harsh light of a flash brings them right out.

Week 3
Day 14 (or ovulation) to Day 22
Today’s hormonescope: It’s not in your head—you really are hungrier today. That’s progesterone’s fault. As it rises, it amps up your appetite and makes you hungry between meals. What’s more, this hormone is making you want to order ooey, gooey comfort foods and practically anything packed with calories. That’s because this hormone wants you to start eating for two in case you got pregnant during ovulation this month (your body won’t get the memo about whether or not you really got pregnant till Week 4). If you’re trying to watch your waistline, try filling up on fruits and salads and indulging in smaller portions of your favorite comfort foods so you can fulfill your cravings without going overboard.

Week 4
Day 23 to the end of cycle
Today’s hormonescope: Here’s the deal, Week 4 gal: Plunging estrogen may be making you feel less playful today. So, you may not feel like dressing in costume for Halloween. You may not even want to go to a party or hand out treats. But, by the time this spooky holiday comes around on the 31st, you’re gonna be in your Week 1 or Week 2. And the rising estrogen during those days will be making you feel silly, sociable and outgoing. And that’s gonna make you wish you’d planned a cool costume or bought one before they were all sold out, accepted invites to parties and/or got awesome treats for the kids. So, I’m recommending that you do your future you a favor by doing a little preparation now so you’ll be ready to enjoy the holiday later.
