Week 1
First day of period to Day 7

Week 2
Day 8 to Day 13
Today’s hormonescope: You may get worried about catching a train, making it somewhere on time or speaking with someone you haven’t seen in awhile. Why? High estrogen intensifies your stress response, making you anxious about issues big and small. Want an easy way to thwart the stress-out? Try imagining someone who’s known for their laid-back attitude, like Rachel Bilson or Johnny Depp. Research shows we tend to take on the behavioral traits of folks we think about.

Week 3
Day 14 (or ovulation) to Day 22
Today’s hormonescope: You get a special kick out of cooking, baking, decorating, cleaning, sewing and doing other homey activities. That’s because rising progesterone amps up your caretaking urges and desire to feather your nest.

Week 4
Day 23 to the end of cycle
Today’s hormonescope: You may find it difficult to focus on details as plunging estrogen takes down your powers of concentration. As a result, you may feel a bit like an absent-minded professor at times when you forget when you put food in the oven, which airplane gate you’re supposed to head to or the one thing your sister specifically asked you to bring over when you visited.
