Today’s Daily Hormone Horoscope: Wednesday, November 14, 2012

My Hormonology Which week are you on
in your monthly cycle?
Find out what it reveals about
what your day has in store:

Week 1
Day 1 (first day of period) to Day 7
Estrogen and testosterone rise

Today’s Hormone Horoscope: As your Week 1 goes on and the fog of low energy during menstruation lifts, you’ll likely be dispensing free advice to your family, friends, boss, even fellow shoppers at the grocery store. That’s because rising estrogen is making you chatty and rising testosterone is making you bold. What’s more, this hormonal duo is making you think more quickly, so you’re coming up with more ideas, putting together information faster and remembering more details, so the advice you’re doling out is probably pretty spot-on!

Week 2
Day 8 to Day 13
Estrogen and testosterone rise till they peak

Today’s Hormone Horoscope: Here’s the note you need to put up on your bathroom mirror, fridge or anywhere else you’re likely to see it today: “Dear Week 2 Me: Do not make outrageous social plans that fall on my Week 3 or Week 4!” Here’s why: While in Week 2, high estrogen and testosterone are pumping you full of vim and vigor and giving you the deep desire to see every single person you’ve ever known and introduce yourself to new folks with whom you’re sure you could have a major connection. But, in Week 3, lower levels of these hormones combined with sedating progesterone make you lethargic and quiet, so making conversation feels like a chore. And by Week 4, estrogen and testosterone are in full plunge-mode, making you see others’ faults more easily while also conveniently lowering your patience with them.

Week 3
Day 14 (or ovulation) to Day 22
Progesterone rises; estrogen and testosterone drop for half the week, then rise again

Today’s Hormone Horoscope: You may get annoyed by overly energetic, easily enthusiastic friends today. While they’re at a 10 on the energy scale, your rising progesterone and lower levels of estrogen and testosterone likely have you hovering around a 5…or lower if you got a lousy night’s sleep and your caffeine infusion hasn’t kicked in yet. Try to have patience with your peppy pals. After all, while in your super-high energy Week 2, you probably annoyed a few Week 3 ladies yourself!

Week 4
Day 23 to the end of your cycle
Estrogen, testosterone and progesterone plunge

Today’s Hormone Horoscope: At some point today, you may feel like someone robbed you of your brain and replaced it with a pile of mashed potatoes. Facts or names you knew down pat may be completely forgotten, you could end up pausing for what seems like forever trying to remember the word or phrase you want to use in a conversation, or you might make the kind of embarrassing mistake you’d expect your sister’s boneheaded boyfriend to make. What’s to blame? Plunging estrogen and testosterone, of course! As these hormones track downward throughout your Week 4, they put a damper on memory, verbal skills and general thinking abilities.
