Today’s Daily Hormone Horoscope: Wednesday, May 1, 2013

Hormonology uses hundreds of scientific studies to show you how your hormones impact you in virtually every way every day of your monthly cycle. The Hormone Horoscope is a nifty little way of dispensing this information daily. To get started, find the week you’re on in your monthly cycle (you can use this easy guide if you’re not sure), then read your Hormone Horoscope for today!

My HormonologyWhich week are you on in your monthly cycle? Find out what it reveals about what your day has in store:

Week 1
Day 1 (first day of period) to Day 7
Estrogen rises

Today’s Hormone Horoscope: When solving a problem, try to resist the urge to jump on the first option or get swayed by a persuasive pitch someone gives you. You become more and more impulsive the further you get into your Week 1 and Week 2 and you want problems solved fast, but leaping before looking can be a big mistake. I was just reminded of this exact issue yesterday: I ordered a new laptop to replace the one that got killed by my rampaging dogs earlier this week and someone convinced me that Windows 8 is a travesty to behold and to do anything I could to get a laptop with Windows 7. Well, I wanted a laptop right away and ordered the wrong one for my needs and that was way, way, way too expensive all to be sure I got the Windows 7. End result? After careful reflection, I cancelled the order that I had learned had already shipped and now I’ve got to wait even longer to get the replacement computer I really need. That’s one to grow on!

Week 2
Day 8 to Day 14 (or ovulation)
Estrogen and testosterone rise till they peak

Today’s Hormone Horoscope: Your emotions may be more, hmmm how shall I put it, colorful today. For instance, if you’re attracted to a cutie, you may be convinced you’re head over heels in love. If someone inadvertently ticks you off, they haven’t just committed a faux pas, they’ve committed the worst crime known to humanity. And if someone surprises you, say, a girlfriend reveals she’s pregnant or your significant other proposes, well, they better have earplugs ready so they don’t get deafened by your screams of joy. Credit (or blame?) for your heightened emotions goes to high estrogen and testosterone, which ratchet up your energy to cycle-long highs, making everything you feel a bit more exaggerated.

Week 3
Day 15 (or the day after ovulation) to Day 22
Progesterone rises; estrogen and testosterone drop for half the week, then estrogen rises again
Today’s Hormone Horoscope: In Week 2 of your cycle, high estrogen had you curious about the world and chatty, so you were likely to ask folks questions about themselves and pipe up in conversation. This week? Not so much. Lower levels of estrogen coupled with sedating progesterone make you less interested in hearing folks go on about themselves and not as likely to join a conversation or start one of your own.

Week 4
Day 23 to the end of your cycle
Estrogen and progesterone plunge

Today’s Hormone Horoscope: It may be harder to stick to healthy diets, push yourself to do a grueling workout, work on a boring project or do other demanding or unappealing tasks. That’s because plunging estrogen is making willpower as scarce as full-fat brownies at a Weight Watchers convention and is triggering aches and moodiness that make you prefer comforting, fun activities that distract you from pain and boost your mood.
