Which week are you on
in your monthly cycle?
Find out what it reveals about
what your day has in store:
First day of period to Day 7
Today’s hormonescope: Whether you’ve been meaning to stick to a diet or not, you’ll notice that you’re eating a bit less today. As estrogen rises, it has a mild anti-suppressant effect that makes you eat about 12% less than you do during the second half of your cycle, Tufts University researchers found.
Day 8 to Day 13
Today’s hormonescope: You’re likely to be a bit bawdy, say some off-color jokes or reveal that you actually pass gas to your significant other. The reason? High estrogen and testosterone are making you funnier, more impulsive and racier than other weeks of your cycle, which gives you the feeling you could say practically anything to anyone.
Day 14 (or ovulation) to Day 22
Today’s hormonescope: If you feel crabby or blue today, try nibbling string cheese, noshing on peanut butter and celery or dipping into a yogurt. Rising progesterone makes you hungrier this week; ignoring those hunger pangs can trigger low blood sugar, which can lead to anxiety or a down mood, while eating a healthy snack can keep blood sugar steady, which helps you stay upbeat.
Day 23 to the end of cycle
Today’s hormonescope: You may be surprised that a teacher, friend or family member who you look up to has flaws, such as being egocentric or a little lazy. It’s not that this person has changed. Rather, your plunging estrogen is helping you see people in a more realistic light today as opposed to the first half of your cycle when optimism-boosting rising estrogen made you see them as smarter, more capable and more impressive than they really were. Try not to be disillusioned when someone’s foibles become clearer; we all have strengths and weaknesses no matter how awesome we are.
