Today’s Daily Hormone Horoscope: Wednesday, June 5, 2013

Hormonology uses hundreds of scientific studies to show you how your hormones impact you in virtually every way every day of your monthly cycle. The Hormone Horoscope is a nifty little way of dispensing this information daily. To get started, find the week you’re on in your monthly cycle (you can use this easy guide if you’re not sure), then read your Hormone Horoscope for today!

My HormonologyWhich week are you on in your monthly cycle? Find out what it reveals about what your day has in store:

Week 1
Day 1 (first day of period) to Day 7
Estrogen rises

Today’s Hormone Horoscope: In the first half of your Week 1, pain and fatigue from menstrual cramps may keep you on the quiet side. However, the world should watch out once the second half of your Week 1 arrives: Rising estrogen is boosting your desire to chat and connect with others. As a result, you may keep a salesperson talking long after the growing line of customers behind you starts winding around the candy display case, you may strike up long conversations with innocent by-standers at the bank or supermarket who are trying to rush home to watch their favorite TV show, or you may call friends out of the blue just to say “Hi” and keep them on the phone 20 minutes past the first time they say, “Okay, I gotta go now.”

Week 2
Day 8 to Day 14 (or ovulation)
Estrogen and testosterone rise till they peak

Today’s Hormone Horoscope: Your challenge today is to avoid the “over-promise”. The super-optimistic yet likely unrealistic agreement you make to someone to do a huge project that’s far too challenging, volunteer your time even though your schedule is already jam-packed or buy him or her an expensive item you really can’t afford. The problem is that high estrogen and testosterone are pumping up feel-good brain chemicals that make you truly believe you can fulfill this over-promise. That’s because they’re making you prone to seeing only the positives–how good the person will feel if you do it and how good that will make you feel–rather than the negatives–which would be all the effort, time and expense it would actually take on your part to make it happen.

Week 3
Day 15 (or the day after ovulation) to Day 22
Progesterone rises; estrogen and testosterone drop for half the week, then estrogen rises again
Today’s Hormone Horoscope: Strong, intense, never-ending, true-blue feelings you had for a crush in Week 2 of your cycle may suddenly greatly diminish or evaporate altogether in your Week 3. Why? In Week 2, high estrogen and testosterone were firing up your desire for romance, making every little thing your crush did absolutely irresistible. In Week 3, these two hormones drop fast, taking away that intense longing. On top of that, progesterone is rising, and this sedating hormone dampens your desire even further. Another interesting factor affecting your romantic life: Research shows that the change in hormone levels from Week 2 to Week 3 has a big impact on the kind of person you’re attracted to. In your Week 2, assertive, competitive and physically strong cuties caught your eye. Meanwhile, in Week 3, you’re more likely to be drawn toward someone who’s cooperative, sensitive and emotional.

Week 4
Day 23 to the end of your cycle
Estrogen and progesterone plunge

Today’s Hormone Horoscope: Careful: Plunging estrogen is not only bringing down your patience with others, but also with yourself. So when you do something wrong, you could end up beating yourself up about it and, subsequently, making other mistakes you could have avoided. For instance, if you stub your toe into a table leg, you may get so angry you slam the table with your fist and end up hurting your hand, too. Or if you say something bone-headed to someone important, you may get so frustrated with yourself that you try to quickly fix it by saying something else that comes out sounding even worse. My advice: If you can, after making an error try to pause, take a deep breath and resist the urge to immediately react. Doing so could save you from a big headache.
