Day 8 to Day 13
Today’s hormonescope: A lot of folks assume that the only week women are more prone to losing their temper is during Week 4, the premenstrual week. But, truth is, you’ve got a tiger crouched and ready to spring during Week 2 as well. That’s because when estrogen gets as high as it does on these days, it amps up your emotional response to stress and makes you more vocal. Meanwhile, high testosterone is making you feel bolder and a lot less concerned about what people think of you. The combination of these hormonal effects should be enough for anyone to think twice about cutting you off in traffic, stealing your lunch out of the fridge or grabbing the last on-sale bag of chocolate chip cookies that you were clearly reaching for. The resulting outburst could be frightening.
Day 14 (or ovulation) to Day 22
Today’s hormonescope: You’re happiest when feathering the nest today as rising progesterone boosts your desire to have comfortable, beautiful surroundings. As a result, you may clean a bit, rearrange furniture, hang decorations, burn scented candles, buy new pillows or beautify your home in other ways.
Day 23 to the end of cycle
Today’s hormonescope: You may struggle with habits you’re trying to break, such as drinking, eating sweets, shopping or smoking. The reason? As estrogen and testosterone plunge, they’re making you more likely to be achy, blue or irritable, and it just so happens that most of the activities we put on our habits-to-break list are things that fight these bad feelings by making us feel good. Go figure.
