My Hormonology

Which week are you on in your cycle?

Week 1
First day of period to Day 7
Today’s hormonescope: You’re more willing to overlook the faults of your current sweetie or the hottie you’re interested in. The reason? As estrogen rises, it boosts feel-good brain chemicals that help you focus on what’s right about the object of your affection and minimize what’s wrong.

Week 2
Day 8 to Day 13
Today’s hormonescope: You may feel like spilling the beans and telling someone a big secret today. Why? High estrogen is making you chatty and high testosterone is making you impulsive. Together this hormonal duo makes it super-hard to keep your lips sealed!

Week 3
Day 14 (or ovulation) to Day 22
Today’s hormonescope: Week 3 is when you have to cash the checks that Week 2 you wrote. Meaning? You may be regretting decisions you made last week that you now have to act on this week, liiiike, going through with the ski jump competition, remodeling the bathroom or going on a blind date. While you were in Week 2, high hormones had you feeling adventurous, energetic and brave—pretty much the exact opposite of what your hormones have you feeling this week.

Week 4
Day 23 to the end of cycle
Today’s hormonescope: With your powers of concentration on the downswing as estrogen and testosterone plunge, you may want to take extra precautions to avoid distractions while working if you want to get anything done before the weekend, for instance, turn off your text message and email alerts, turn off your phone’s ringer and hang a “do not disturb” sign on your door or chair.
