Today’s Daily Hormone Horoscope: Wednesday, February 20, 2013

Hormonology uses hundreds of scientific studies to show you how your hormones impact you in virtually every way every day of your monthly cycle. The Hormone Horoscope is a nifty little way of dispensing this information daily. To get started, find the week you’re on in your monthly cycle (you can use this easy guide if you’re not sure), then read your Hormone Horoscope for today!

My HormonologyWhich week are you on in your monthly cycle? Find out what it reveals about what your day has in store:

Day 1 (first day of period) to Day 7
Estrogen and testosterone rise

Today’s Hormone Horoscope: As estrogen and testosterone rise in your Week 1, your hormones have a similar effect as the first cup of whatever caffeinated brew or vitamin-rich smoothie you use to wake yourself up in the morning: As the tiring fog of menstruation clears, these hormones are making you think faster on your feet, making it easier to absorb and understand new information, upping your energy and making you optimistic about your ability to take on the world!

Week 2
Day 8 to Day 14 (or ovulation)
Estrogen and testosterone rise till they peak

Today’s Hormone Horoscope: Careful: You could come across as a bit of a know-it-all today. Why? High estrogen and testosterone sharpen your memory (so you’re recalling more facts at the drop of a hat), they’re making you talkative (so you’re more likely to bring these facts up in conversation) and they’re boosting your confidence to cycle-long highs (which means you’re less likely to back down if someone says these facts could possibly be incorrect)!

Week 3
Day 15 (or the day after ovulation) to Day 22
Progesterone rises; estrogen and testosterone drop for half the week, then rise again

Today’s Hormone Horoscope: You may be putting less effort into how you look today than you did when you were in your Week 2. For instance, you may wear less makeup or jewelry, put your hair up in a scrunchie or break out the sweatpants. Why? As estrogen and testosterone dip and progesterone rises, you’re putting more emphasis on your personal comfort and less on how you appear to others.

Week 4
Day 23 to the end of your cycle
Estrogen, testosterone and progesterone plunge

Today’s Hormone Horoscope: You may notice that negative emotions are amplified today. For instance, a story you hear in the news about some kind of injustice makes you pessimistic about the state of the world. Or a car cutting you off in traffic makes you yell a string of expletives usually reserved for a Jerry Springer episode. Worse yet, you could end up ruminating about the problem, unable to let it go.  The reason? Point a finger directly to descending estrogen, which saps feel-good chemicals in the brain. My advice? Next time you have a bout of negativity, try to remind yourself it’s just descending hormones exaggerating the problem, which can go a long way toward dissipating your sadness or anger.
