Which week are you on in your cycle?
First day of period to Day 7
Today’s hormonescope: If it’s during the first half of your Week 1, expect energy levels to be on the low side; even though estrogen and testosterone are rising, you’re losing energizing iron during menstruation. If it’s the second half of your Week 1, rising estrogen, testosterone and iron stores will be giving you such a big energy surge, you may feel a bit on edge or jittery, especially after a cup of your favorite caffeinated infusion.
Day 8 to Day 13
Today’s hormonescope: Friends who invite you to bowl, play board games or run for class president should be on notice: high testosterone is making you more competitive than any other week of your cycle. So, you’re not going to just want to do well, you’re going to want to absolutely massacre the competition. This goes double if alcohol is involved since it boosts must-win testosterone even higher!
Day 14 (or ovulation) to Day 22
Today’s hormonescope: Take the opportunity to savor something you love, like the first sip of your morning chai latte, a bite of gingerbread doughnut or the warm rays of the sun streaming through the window. During the first half of your cycle, rising estrogen and testosterone were speeding you up and making the idea of pausing to appreciate sweet moments like these a total waste of time. Now rising progesterone is mellowing you out, making you more likely to actually enjoy slowing down and appreciating the little things in life.
Day 23 to the end of cycle
Today’s hormonescope: Chances are, you’ll want to watch your favorite TV show even if it’s in reruns, eat a lunch you’ve had a million times before and wear your favorite pair of jeans that are thisclose to wearing out. Why? Plunging estrogen is making you less bold about trying something new and more comfortable with things you know inside and out.
