Week 1
First day of period to Day 7
Today’s hormonescope: I recently made the rookie mistake of going to Target during my Week 1. Not a good move. Thanks to rising testosterone, which ups impulsiveness, and rising estrogen, which makes you optimistic that you can afford, well, anything, I was merciless to the shelves filled with endless impulse items and endedup filling my basket with more unnecessary stuff than I even want to admit to. I pass this information on to you in case you’re on a budget and don’t want to blow your savings on blueberry-scented hand lotion, glitter nail polish and dozens of other non-essentials.

Week 2
Day 8 to Day 13
Today’s hormonescope: You may not want to take orders from others today and prefer to be the one doing the bossing around! That’s testosterone’s influence. As it climbs, it brings out your inner leader by upping your confidence, independence and desire for power.

Week 3
Day 14 (or ovulation) to Day 22
Today’s hormonescope: You may find yourself getting a little sentimental as you think back upon events, friends or family from your past. Rising progesterone and lower levels of estrogen and testosterone are having you look a little more inward than you did during the first half of your cycle. This hormone combo may also trigger a bit of the blues, making you wistful or even downright maudlin about your memories.

Week 4
Day 23 to the end of cycle
Today’s hormonescope: If you need a new car, refrigerator or other big item, consider shopping for it during your Week 4. As estrogen plunges during this phase, it’s making it easier for you to see through a salesperson’s double-talk and store’s sneaky marketing tactics. You’re also more likely to stand your ground and ask for a better bargain.
