Which week are you on in your cycle?
First day of period to Day 7
Today’s hormonescope: Recently, I spoke to a woman who was looking at buying the house across the street from me. The house is beautiful and historic, but is a true fixer-upper needing tens of thousands of dollars in repairs, which she said she didn’t have, but would try to get in grants or by asking friends. Furthermore, she has three teenage kids. This is only a two-bedroom house. She was convinced that she could fix up the house, fit in her whole family and still have room to spare. It seemed absurd, but then I noticed she was super-chatty, her smile was wide, she was using a lot of gestures and using a lot of higher and lower notes as she spoke. This woman clearly fell in love with this house during the first half of her cycle. I mention this because you, too, may fall in love with a true fixer-upper, such as a house, car or potential mate, as rising estrogen boosts optimism and rising testosterone boosts confidence during the first two weeks of your cycle. You may be convinced that you’re the one who can make it work when no one else could, that it will be worth the time and effort you put in and the outcome will only be fantastic. However, before you commit your money, time or heart, ask trusted friends and family whether they would make the same decision or if they think it’s wise that you do. Your Week 3 and Week 4 You will be grateful you got a second opinion.
Day 8 to Day 13
Today’s hormonescope: You may have an over the top reaction to events today, either by jumping for joy, screaming in pain, exploding in laughter or wailing in despair. What’s making your inner diva come out? High estrogen and testosterone, which amp up your excitement, volume and comfort in hogging the spotlight.
Day 14 (or ovulation) to Day 22
Today’s hormonescope: You may regret what you don’t say to folks today. That’s because plunging estrogen and testosterone are decreasing your confidence and making you quieter, so even though you desperately want to say the clever comeback, profess your undying love (or lust) or make a naughty joke, you may decide to pass.
Day 23 to the end of cycle
Today’s hormonescope: Unlike Week 1 and Week 2 gals, you can’t imagine how people can fall for get-rich-quick schemes, go on a date with someone with a criminal record or fall in love with a house that requires tens of thousands of dollars in repairs and is too small for their family. That’s because plunging estrogen is making you see things in a more realistic than optimistic light.
