My HormonologyWhich week are you on
in your monthly cycle?
Find out what it reveals about
what your day has in store:

Week 1
First day of period to Day 7
Today’s hormone horoscope: I’m the first to admit that I love it when my estrogen and testosterone rise thanks to all the energy, brain-sharpening and optimism they bring. However, when these hormones first start to rise in Week 1 after falling so far in Week 4, you could end up feeling a few side effects as your body readjusts, including loose stool or diarrhea, frequent urination, headaches, acne, flare-ups of chronic health problems, dizziness and/or a racing heartbeat. Luckily, if you’re bothered by any of these symptoms, they usually start to subside by mid-week so you can enjoy all the fun benefits these rising hormones bring!

Week 2
Day 8 to Day 13
Today’s hormone horoscope: Careful out there, Week 2 gal: Your high estrogen and testosterone are giving you oomph and optimism, a combination that could tempt you to overdo it, say, by drinking more alcohol than you can handle, doing an extra-hard workout or accepting yet another project at work or school even though your schedule is already bursting.

Week 3
Day 14 (or ovulation) to Day 22
Today’s hormone horoscope: Minor irritations about your home that you ignored the last two weeks—like the leaking faucet, peeling paint or mismatched sofa pillows—start to irk you this week. Why? Lower levels of estrogen make you less patient with little problems and rising progesterone is making you focus more on matters concerning your home.

Week 4
Day 23 to the end of cycle
Today’s hormone horoscope: Quality sleep will be hard to come by tonight due to plunging estrogen, which depletes your brain of sleep-regulating serotonin. As a result, you may find it hard to fall asleep, wake up easily or simply toss and turn without getting any deep zzzs. To up your chances of better sleep, try keeping your bedroom cool, wear comfy pajamas and warn roommates, family members and pets to keep the noise down since plunging estrogen makes you more sensitive to sleep-robbing discomfort and sounds.
