Week 1
First day of period to Day 7
Today’s hormonescope: You may find it difficult to focus today as rising estrogen amps up both your energy and curiousity about the world around you. As a result, you easily spin off in a totally different direction (and another one, then another one) when working on a project, get sucked into an Internet vortex that makes you hop from site to site or end up turning a one-errand run into a whole afternoon of cruising around town.

Week 2
Day 8 to Day 13
Today’s hormonescope: Careful! You’re more likely to overindulge in alcohol, food, cigarettes and anything else that gives you pleasure, but could be bad for you. The reason? As estrogen climbs, it gives your brain a bigger buzz from fun yet naughty stuff, so once you start partaking, it can be hard to stop.

Week 3
Day 14 (or ovulation) to Day 22
Today’s hormonescope: You’ll probably find yourself getting lost in daydreams today as rising progesterone slows your thinking and has your brain going on auto-pilot more frequently than in the past two weeks. Luckily, you can still get a lot of work done while daydreaming: Research shows that when you let your thoughts wander, your brain connects different ideas together to help you come up with creative solutions to nagging problems!

Week 4
Day 23 to the end of cycle
Today’s hormonescope: You may feel like no outfit fits right, you’re bloating like a puffer fish and you just can’t win with your hair. Are you suddenly falling apart at the seams? No. You’re just experiencing a drop in self-esteem from plunging estrogen and testosterone, which makes it soooo much easier to see your faults and way less easy to see your positive qualities. To feel better about yourself, first avoid department store dressing room mirrors like the plague (seriously, don’t stores realize how awful the lighting is in there?), then don an outfit and wear a hairstyle that you feel most comfortable in, which will make you less self-conscious about your appearance.
