Today’s Daily Hormone Horoscope: Tuesday, October 9, 2012

My Hormonology Which week are you on
in your monthly cycle?
Find out what it reveals about
what your day has in store:

Week 1
Day 1 (first day of period) to Day 7
Estrogen and testosterone rise

Today’s Hormone Horoscope: Thanks to rising estrogen, which makes you more goal-oriented, flexible and open-minded, you’re more open to change today. This change might involve watching a new TV show, talking to a stranger or signing up for a class. Or it could involve change in yourself, for instance, tweaking your personality to be a different kind of person you always wanted to be, for instance, a social butterfly or less of a perfectionist!

Week 2
Day 8 to Day 13
Estrogen and testosterone rise till they peak

Today’s Hormone Horoscope: Watch those nervous tics, like nail chewing, hair twirling, lip biting or scratching. High estrogen is amping up your energy, which can put nervous habits into overdrive, leaving you with nubby nails, scraggly hair ends, sore lips and scabs. Having trouble getting that excess anxiety under control? Try sipping chamomile tea, which research shows is abundant in calming compounds.

Week 3
Day 14 (or ovulation) to Day 22
Progesterone rises; estrogen and testosterone drop for half the week, then rise again

Today’s Hormone Horoscope: If you’ve ever lost track of where you are in your cycle, here’s an easy way to figure it out: If you go from energetic, outgoing, upbeat, social and sexually adventurous to tired, introverted, shy, crabby and a low libido, you’ve officially entered your Week 3. The second half of your cycle is the opposite of the first half. That’s because estrogen and testosterone are on the rise during Weeks 1 & 2 while they’re on the downswing during Weeks 3 & 4. You also have sedating, libido-quashing progesterone to deal with during the second half of your cycle, giving your energy and sex drive a double-whammy. This doesn’t mean it’s all bad news though. While the first half of your cycle is built for fun and adventure, the second half is perfect for recuperating, renewing your energy and pondering your next move.

Week 4
Day 23 to the end of your cycle
Estrogen, testosterone and progesterone plunge

Today’s Hormone Horoscope: Channel your emotions through creativity today, for instance, by writing, doodling, singing, playing guitar or painting. Plunging estrogen and testosterone can make you feel a bit on edge, down or frustrated, and letting out your inner artist can help you shed negative feelings and prevent them from popping up in the first place by boosting brain chemicals that pump up your mood.
