My HormonologyWhich week are you on in your cycle?

Week 1
First day of period to Day 7
Today’s hormonescope: You’ll likely offer suggestions to your family, friends, boss, even fellow shoppers at the grocery store. And it’s not just because rising estrogen is making you chatty and rising testosterone is making you bold. This hormonal duo is also making you think more quickly, so you’re coming up with more ideas, putting together information faster and remembering details that may have been lost to brain fog just a week ago.

Week 2
Day 8 to Day 13
Today’s hormonescope: As estrogen and testosterone rise, they boost brain chemicals that make you feel more confident about your work, school, kids, home, gorgeous hair, whatever you like most about your life. And, according to a new study, these prideful feelings affect your shopping habits, making you gravitate toward beautiful shoes, clothes, jewelry and other items that make you stand out in a crowd, reports the Journal of Consumer Research.

Week 3
Day 14 (or ovulation) to Day 22
Today’s hormonescope: It may be harder to pick a color for the new couch, decide on a restaurant for lunch or help a friend choose between two date outfits. That’s because rising progesterone is giving you a case of the blahs, which makes it harder to get inspired or muster enthusiasm about not-so-important matters.

Week 4
Day 23 to the end of cycle
Today’s hormonescope: You may get hit with pangs of self-doubt or self-consciousness today. That’s because, as estrogen and testosterone descend, they lower brain chemicals responsible for confidence. Luckily, there’s an easy way to feel instantly better about yourself: sit or stand up straight! In a recent study, folks who perfected their posture were far more confident about their ideas, skills and talents than when they slumped, reports the European Journal of Social Psychology.
