Today’s Daily Hormone Horoscope: Tuesday, May 28, 2013

Hormonology uses hundreds of scientific studies to show you how your hormones impact you in virtually every way every day of your monthly cycle. The Hormone Horoscope is a nifty little way of dispensing this information daily. To get started, find the week you’re on in your monthly cycle (you can use this easy guide if you’re not sure), then read your Hormone Horoscope for today!

My HormonologyWhich week are you on in your monthly cycle? Find out what it reveals about what your day has in store:

Week 1
Day 1 (first day of period) to Day 7
Estrogen rises

Today’s Hormone Horoscope: Be careful of saying “yes” to too many extra favors or volunteering your time for too many causes today. Rising estrogen is making you optimistic that you’ve got enough time and energy to fit new tasks into your schedule when, in reality, you may already be stretched to the limit.

Week 2
Day 8 to Day 14 (or ovulation)
Estrogen and testosterone rise till they peak

Today’s Hormone Horoscope: As you get closer and closer to the end of your Week 2, you could end up feeling antsy, find it difficult to focus and/or experience some anxiety. That’s because high estrogen and testosterone ratchet up your mental and physical energy, pushing them higher and higher as each day goes on–and for some, this energy surge can be a bit much. Suffice to say, this goes double whenever a jumbo mug of caffeine is involved.

Week 3
Day 15 (or the day after ovulation) to Day 22
Progesterone rises; estrogen and testosterone drop for half the week, then estrogen rises again
Today’s Hormone Horoscope: While you were in your Week 2, high estrogen and testosterone sharpened your memory and made you an eloquent speaker. Multi-syllabic words slipped easily from your lips and you could charm the pants off anyone, impressing them with your stellar recall of facts, dates and figures. Week 3 is a whole different story. The combination of rising progesterone and falling estrogen and testosterone can sometimes make you feel like you’ve got the memory of a goldfish and the verbal skills of a heavyweight boxer after he’s been knocked out in a fight. Truth? This hormonal combination is, indeed, fogging up your memory a bit and making you more likely to pause and say “um” or “ah” as you speak. However, this shift is less dramatic than it feels. And it doesn’t mean you can’t still be your best in meetings, on dates and during other important activities. It’s just not as delightfully effortless as it was in Week 2. But with a little extra concentration, folks around you may never even notice the difference.

Week 4
Day 23 to the end of your cycle
Estrogen and progesterone plunge

Today’s Hormone Horoscope: You may feel your intuition is getting sharper and that you’re getting more hunches throughout the day, for instance, about people’s intentions, a better route to take to your destination or whether it’s the right time to make a certain purchase. And you’d be wise to trust those gut feelings! That’s because your intuition really is more on target today. Why? Follow me as I explain: As estrogen falls, it brings down feel-good brain chemicals, resulting in a dour or even blue mood. Or at least a mood that’s not nearly as happy-go-lucky as it was when you were in your high estrogen Week 2. And that’s key since recent research shows that down moods actually prompt you to notice more details about the world around you, even if you don’t consciously realize it, for example, picking up on subtle body language or hearing a radio traffic report in the background. As a result, that extra information bubbling up from your brain (which you take as a hunch) can, indeed, help you make a better choice!
