Today’s Daily Hormone Horoscope: Tuesday, February 7, 2012

My HormonologyWhich week are you on
in your monthy cycle?
Find out what it reveals about
what your day has in store:

Week 1
First day of period to Day 7
Today’s hormonescope: If you’re trying to quit an addictive substance, for instance, cigarettes or caffeine, today’s the perfect time to do it. As estrogen rises this week and all next week, it’s making you feel fewer withdrawal symptoms, such as fatigue, irritability and discomfort, so you’ll be less likely to fall off the wagon.

Week 2
Day 8 to Day 13
Today’s hormonescope: If you’ve got a big project to do, say, cleaning out your closet, painting a room or baking 100 cupcakes, plan to do it during this week of your cycle. Thanks to high estrogen and testosterone, you’ve got more energy and endurance now than during any other week of your cycle!

Week 3
Day 14 (or ovulation) to Day 22
Today’s hormonescope: Want to whittle down your weight? Go for a jog, dance to upbeat music or work out in another way. When you exercise this week and most of next week, you burn up to 30% more fat thanks to the combination of progesterone and estrogen, which fires up your body’s fat-burning mechanisms when you’re active.

Week 4
Day 23 to the end of cycle
Today’s hormonescope: Avoid painful procedures, breaking in new shoes or other things that are sure to bring discomfort. As estrogen plunges this week, it makes you more susceptible to pain that during any other week of your cycle. Can’t avoid something painful, like a shot? Try drinking a sugar-sweetened beverage right beforehand. Some research suggests that the sugar triggers a rush of pain-masking endorphins, easing the discomfort!
