My HormonologyWhich week are you on in your monthly cycle? Find out what it reveals about what your day has in store:

Day 1 (first day of period) to Day 7
Estrogen and testosterone rise

Today’s Hormone Horoscope: As your Week 1 goes on and you get past the achy, fatiguing part of your period, energy-boosting and project-launching rising estrogen may inspire you to come up with a new system for doing something that saves time, makes your life easier or simply makes a task more fun. You may even come up with a brand-new invention. And good news if you do: You may be able to sell it on Quirky.com and make a bundle!

Week 2
Day 8 to Day 13
Estrogen and testosterone rise till they peak

Today’s Hormone Horoscope: You’re likely going to be encroaching on other people’s personal space today and get the urge to say things you probably shouldn’t as high estrogen has you overlooking personal boundaries in favor of getting up-close-and-personal and telling it like it is. And, it probably goes without saying that this effect is doubled if alcohol is involved.

Week 3
Day 14 (or ovulation) to Day 22
Progesterone rises; estrogen and testosterone drop for half the week, then rise again

Today’s Hormone Horoscope: People who got used to making you laugh for the past two weeks are going to start to worry that they’ve broken their funny bone when they’re around you. The reason? During Week 1 and Week 2, you were all guffaws as estrogen rose since this hormone triggers a surge of brain chemicals that make you upbeat and more likely to laugh. But, in Week 3, not only does estrogen dip to a lower level, making the giggles farther and fewer between, rising progesterone is also on the scene, making you seem more serious and sedate.

Week 4
Day 23 to the end of your cycle
Estrogen, testosterone and progesterone plunge

Today’s Hormone Horoscope: As estrogen plunges, making you see the world a little more cynically, you may be convinced that other people are chock full of hidden agendas today—for example, you may think the shopper who cut you in line probably didn’t like your tattoo, the driver in front of you who’s going 10 mph under the speed limit probably knows you’re late for an appointment and is going slow on purpose or the Facebook friend who posted a weird comment on her wall is aiming it at you in retaliation for an overly honest comment you made in your Week 2 that didn’t sit well. The truth? Most people are waaaayyyyy too involved in themselves to have any agenda about anyone else. Seriously. Life is complicated and most people’s thoughts (including my own) are usually about their own problems and concerns. And this may lead them (again, myself included) to do bone-headed stuff, like inadvertently cutting off someone in line or forgetting what the speed limit is on a given road. Remembering this little fact could save you a lot of premenstrual aggravation as you navigate your day.
