First day of period to Day 7
Today’s hormonescope: You’re going to probably take more time to pick out your clothes, accessories, hair and makeup today than you did during Week 4 of your cycle. That’s because rising estrogen is making you more aware of how other people see you, and it’s making it fun to dress up and coordinate a killer outfit.
Day 8 to Day 13
Today’s hormonescope: Take advantage of rising estrogen and testosterone energy to power through tasks you’ve been putting off. And if you time your day right, you can get even more done! That’s because research shows that Tuesday between 10 and and noon is the most productive time of the week for most people. The reason? By Tuesday, you’ve caught up on emails, phone calls and work left over from the previous Friday and weekend and you usually haven’t yet been deluged with to-dos for this week. And, 10 am to noon is when most of us reach our daily peak for pep and focus.
Day 14 (or ovulation) to Day 22
Today’s hormonescope: Stomach woes may plague you today as rising progesterone slows down digestion, which triggers constipation and prompts bloat. Baby your tummy by sticking to foods you know don’t cause you problems, which can be different for each person. For me, I stick to simple stuff, like eggs, chicken soup, bread and water. If you experience gas or nausea, try sipping peppermint tea, which relieves both. Brew it by steeping a teabag in hot, but not boiling, water for 10 minutes while covered to keep the helpful peppermint oils from evaporating.
Day 23 to the end of cycle
Today’s hormonescope: You may be pressing “delete” on Facebook posts or regretting what you say today. As estrogen plunges, you have less patience, which can make you blow your stack and say some pretty cutting remarks. But, this same hormonal plunge is taking away your confidence, making you worry about hurting someone’s feelings, spurring retaliation or even triggering a lawsuit.
