Now the good news: Researchers just discovered a surprising way to avoid blowing your top—sip lemonade, sweet tea, a slushie, cola or another beverage that contains sugar a few minutes before you know a tense event will happen. In a new study, volunteers who drank a sugary beverage before being deliberately provoked by experimenters remained calmer than those who drank a beverage containing an artificial sweetener, reports the Journal of Experimental Social Psychology. Turns out, sugar strengthens areas of the brain that curb impulsive behavior so you’re less likely to lose your temper!
