My HormonologyWhich week are you on
in your monthy cycle?
Find out what it reveals about
what your day has in store:

Week 1
First day of period to Day 7
Today’s hormonescope: You’re more likely to take things in stride and go with the flow if plans change today. Folks who ask for a different appointment time, restaurant or activity can thank your rising estrogen for your a-okayness with the switcheroo. As this hormone climbs, it boosts feel-good brain chemicals that help you overcome unexpected snags and rebound quickly.

Week 2
Day 8 to Day 13
Today’s hormonescope: High estrogen and testosterone make you more apt to get swept up in the excitement of a sports game, party, juicy gossip, sale and other high-intensity event. But, beware: This effect can also make you easily swept up in other things you should probably give a little more consideration to, such as agreeing to donate time or money you don’t have to a high-energy non-profit organization recruiter, adopting a pet from an exuberant SPCA volunteer or agreeing to host an excited friend’s wedding rehearsal dinner at your cramped apartment.

Week 3
Day 14 (or ovulation) to Day 22
Today’s hormonescope: You’re likely turning down the volume on your iPod, driving more slowly, avoiding sketchy areas and not eating in diners that don’t get an A rating from the Health Department. The reason? As progesterone rises this week, it makes you prefer quiet, safe experiences over loud, exciting ones.

Week 4
Day 23 to the end of cycle
Today’s hormonescope: You may be inspired to face problems that have been long simmering, but which you’ve tried to ignore. That’s because plunging estrogen brings down your patience and optimism, which means you’re less willing to put up with annoying behavior and you’re not about to make excuses for why the offending party is acting like such a dillweed. (Yes, I’m talking to you, next door neighbor who smokes your cigarettes outside so it doesn’t stink up your house, but doesn’t mind blowing it straight into mine!) Anyway, you’re apt to blow your stack and reveal how you really feel about the situation, which isn’t really a bad thing since you’ll never get the resolution you want without bringing things out in the open. See, there’s one upside to premenstrual blow-ups!
