Today’s hormonescope: It may be more difficult to fight the urge to splurge as rising testosterone makes you impulsive and rising estrogen makes you optimistic you can somehow cover the bill. This could mean ordering two or three appetizers with your meal even though there’s no way you could eat them all, putting a few nail polishes, scented candles and other totally not-on-your-list items in your shopping cart or deciding to entirely redecorate a room in a single day!
Day 8 to Day 13
Today’s hormonescope: High testosterone is amping up your desire to compete and be first at whatever you try. So, folks at work, school, PTA meetings and even a grocery store line better watch out, ‘cos here you come!
Day 14 (or ovulation) to Day 22
Today’s hormonescope: It’ll be harder to stick to any diet or exercise regimen today as rising progesterone triggers cravings for calorie-dense food and slows you down, making it harder to peel yourself off the couch. However, there’s some good news if you do find the willpower to avoid junk food and make it to the gym: Research shows that ignoring cravings in the first few days of this high-crave phase of your menstrual cycle makes the desire for sweet and fatty treats less intense and even fade away altogether! And other research shows that exercising during the second half of your cycle results in up to 30% more fat burn due to the combination of progesterone and estrogen!
Day 23 to the end of cycle
Today’s hormonescope: Try to lower your standards for others today. Most folks can barely reach them on your best cycle days. As your estrogen plunges during this premenstrual week, you’re going to have even less patience with shoddy work, late arrivals, missed appointments and other inconsiderate acts. By having low expectations from those around you, you’ll avoid disappointment and may even be happily surprised when they exceed them!
