My HormonologyWhich week are you on in your cycle?

Week 1
First day of period to Day 7
Today’s hormonescope: Want to save some money? Then avoid drugstores, supermarket check-outs and Target like the plague! Rising testosterone is making you more impulsive, which turns you into an easy mark for merchandisers who’ve conveniently placed candy, toys, magazines and other impulse items within easy reach where ever you turn.

Week 2
Day 8 to Day 13
Today’s hormonescope: You may feel like making an upgrade somewhere in your life, for instance, find a better job, better friends, a better partner or even just a better place to eat lunch. Why? High estrogen and testosterone are encouraging you to break old habits by amping up your desire to try something new. Plus, these hormones are giving you the optimism that makes you certain that there’s something more worthwhile out there for you.

Week 3
Day 14 (or ovulation) to Day 22
Today’s hormonescope: Sedating progesterone and lower levels of estrogen are making you smile a lot less than last week. You may not necessarily feel sad, but you’re just not as emotive as you were when estrogen was on the climb. Thing is, you may want to try to keep a smile on your lips today anyway. A new study in the journal Psychological Science reveals that women who were prevented from frowning with Botox injections perceived the world as a happier, more joyful place than before they got the shots. Turns out, keeping a smile on your face makes you less likely to pick up sad or angry cues around you that trigger negative feelings.

Week 4
Day 23 to the end of cycle
Today’s hormonescope: One more day till Friday! And it couldn’t come soon enough for you, Week 4 gal. With estrogen and testosterone descending, you’ve probably had it up to here with work, school or other usual weekday responsibilities and are ready to plan your day around your own whims.
