Today’s Daily Hormone Horoscope: Thursday, October 6, 2011

My HormonologyWhich week are you on
in your monthy cycle?
Find out what it reveals about
what your day has in store:

Week 1
First day of period to Day 7
Today’s hormonescope: Rising estrogen and testosterone are boosting your confidence about how much money you have to spend. It’s not like you feel as though you’ve suddenly come into millions, but you’re pretty sure that you’ll be able to figure out a way to cover that new iPod, outfit and other splurge once the credit card bill rolls around.

Week 2
Day 8 to Day 13
Today’s hormonescope: You’re more willing to be adventurous with your hair, makeup and clothes today. That’s because high estrogen and testosterone are making you focus on your outward appearance as they push you to land a new partner or bed the one you already have!

Week 3
Day 14 (or ovulation) to Day 22
Today’s hormonescope: You’re less likely to wear the colorful, curve-hugging clothes, funky jewelry and other eye-catching items you wore during Week 2. The reason? The combo of rising sedating progesterone and lower levels of estrogen and testosterone make you less comfortable with standing out in a crowd and more prone to trying to blend in.

Week 4
Day 23 to the end of cycle
Today’s hormonescope: If you feel the urge to cry over relationship problems, work stress or even a TV commercial, don’t beat yourself up over it. It’s just descending estrogen that’s triggering the waterworks. As this hormone plunges, it depletes your brain of the mood-regulating brain chemical serotonin, which makes you more apt to tear up. The good news? Studies show that crying releases stress and boosts mood—making this an ingenious and easy way for your body to level out your emotions.
