Which week are you on in your cycle?

Week 1
First day of period to Day 7
Today’s hormonescope: You may take more time to notice and appreciate beautiful things around you, like the sweet smell of freshly-cut grass, colorful butterflies or a perfect puffy cloud. The reason? As estrogen rises, it puts you in a sunny mood and makes you more likely to pay attention to the world outside you (as opposed to the second half of your cycle when your thoughts turn inward).

Week 2
Day 8 to Day 13
Today’s hormonescope: Are you thinking of anything other than sex, your secret crush and getting your current partner into bed? If so, then congratulations! You’re one of the few Week 2 gals who can actually squeeze in a non-lusty thought or two during this high-testosterone week. The rest of us will be picturing everyone naked and wondering if the nearest hotel has per-hour rates.

Week 3
Day 14 (or ovulation) to Day 22
Today’s hormonescope: You may find it easier to focus today as rising progesterone calms you down and makes you less distracted than you were last week when high estrogen and testosterone amped up your nervous energy.

Week 4
Day 23 to the end of cycle
Today’s hormonescope: Plunging estrogen makes you more sensitive to aromas and noise. So, even scents and music you usually enjoy during other weeks of your cycle can end up annoying you. To keep your mood from getting ruined, stick to mellow scents, or none at all, and be ready to change the radio or iPod quickly if the music starts to grate your nerves.
