Today’s Daily Hormone Horoscope: Thursday, May 19, 2011

My HormonologyWhich week are you on
in your monthy cycle?
Find out what it reveals about
what your day has in store:

Week 1
First day of period to Day 7
Today’s hormonescope: You may get a second wind when it comes to a project you’ve been working on, but set aside. Rising estrogen is making you more optimistic, which helps you see any challenges that have stalled you in a new light, making it feel like you can finally overcome them.

Week 2
Day 8 to Day 13
Today’s hormonescope: Your energy doesn’t get any higher than it does during this week of your cycle thanks to high estrogen and testosterone. So, take advantage of this peak perkiness by tackling lots of to-dos and…. You know what, forget wasting your energy on stupid projects and to-dos. Use all that energy for fun! Especially the kind of fun you keep putting off, like taking an impromptu overnight trip, going dancing or spending all day at an amusement park!

Week 3
Day 14 (or ovulation) to Day 22
Today’s hormonescope: If only you had the energy you enjoyed during Week 2 of your cycle! Alas, rising progesterone is a sedating hormone that makes you feel more like taking a nap than going out on the town. Hitting an afternoon slump and have no time to doze? Try opening the window shades or going outside for 30 minutes. A recent study shows that sun exposure wakes you up almost as effectively as taking a 30-minute snooze!

Week 4
Day 23 to the end of cycle
Today’s hormonescope: Hold your nose! Plunging estrogen makes odors too much to bear—even those you’d normally like during other weeks of your cycle, like cinnamon buns and pasta sauce. So your neighbor’s fish fry, your roommate’s sweaty sneakers and the office fridge are going to be definite stinkers.
