My HormonologyWhich week are you on
in your monthly cycle?
Find out what it reveals about
what your day has in store:

Week 1
Day 1 (first day of period) to Day 7
Estrogen and testosterone rise

Today’s Hormone Horoscope: You’ll notice that your memory gets sharper, you’re thinking faster on your feet and you’re using more multi-syllabic words (like that one) than you did during Week 3 and Week 4 of your cycle. Credit goes to rising estrogen and testosterone, which improve brain skills as they climb, which–good news!–continues all the way through the end of Week 2!

Week 2
Day 8 to Day 13
Estrogen and testosterone rise till they peak

Today’s Hormone Horoscope: High estrogen and testosterone are charging up your confidence and desire to talk up a storm. Together this may result in you losing some of your conversation filters, leading you to make bawdy jokes you normally wouldn’t or sassing your boss, neighbor or mother in a playful way.

Week 3
Day 14 (or ovulation) to Day 22
Progesterone rises; estrogen and testosterone drop for half the week, then rise again

Today’s Hormone Horoscope: Unlike Week 1 and Week 2 gals, you may discover that your memory is a little foggy today, you can’t remember the word you want to use and you’re coming up with solutions and answers just a little more slowly. The problem is rising progesterone, which is a hormone that muddies up your brain a bit, and lower levels of estrogen and testosterone, hormones your brain uses to be at its sharpest. Now, this doesn’t mean you’ve lost 100 IQ points and no longer know how to use a pen. It just means super-braininess isn’t coming quite as quickly to you as it was during the first half of your cycle. But, with a little extra effort, you’ll do just as well.

Week 4
Day 23 to the end of your cycle
Estrogen, testosterone and progesterone plunge

Today’s Hormone Horoscope: Avoid making drastic changes today if you can help it. Plunging estrogen and testosterone are making you prone to seeing your life, relationship, job, family, even your hair in the worst light possible. That’s because they’re bringing down levels of feel-good chemicals in your brain, which can distort your view of things, making them seem worse than they really are. Before you chop someone, your job or your hair out of life, ask a friend for advice or wait until Week 1 rolls around so you can see how you feel about the situation once estrogen and testosterone start rising once again.
