Week 1
First day of period to Day 7

Week 2
Day 8 to Day 13
Today’s hormonescope: Something funny happens to your face today: your nose, ears and other facial features become more symmetrical! Sound bizarre, but research shows that high estrogen evens out soft tissue, making it more balanced. Why does it do this? Some scientists say this is your body’s way of enhancing your beauty to attract a mate during ovulation.

Week 3
Day 14 (or ovulation) to Day 22
Today’s hormonescope: You’re going to feel like you’re dragging today as sedating progesterone makes it feel like someone unplugged your power cord. If you need a boost in pep, try sniffing lemon or mint scents. Both have been shown in studies to pump you up by stimulating areas in your brain that govern energy.

Week 4
Day 23 to the end of cycle
Today’s hormonescope: If you tend to get snappish during your premenstrual week, try cutting down on caffeinated coffee and tea by swapping your usual beverages for water, juice or herbal tea. Caffeine has been shown to aggravate irritability, making you lose your temper more easily. But, if you’re an avid caffeine drinker, don’t cut it out entirely. The ensuing withdrawal will make you twice as grumpy!
