Week 1
First day of period to Day 7
Today’s hormone-cast: You’ll be asking more questions, clicking more links and reading more articles past their headline today as rising estrogen makes you more curious about the world around you.

Week 2
Day 8 to Day 13
Today’s hormone-cast: Watch your speed as you drive today. You may be tempted to go a few miles per hour over the limit as high estrogen and testosterone make you more daring and have you enjoying the thrill of being just a little bit bad.

Week 3
Day 14 (or ovulation) to Day 22
Today’s hormone-cast: Stash healthy snacks in your purse or pockets. Rising progesterone is making you hungrier more often during the day. And research shows that a famished feeling leads to grumpiness, poor decision-making and overspending. Not to mention NFL-like tackles on the nearest vending machine for really fattening nibbles that aren’t even that good, like Funions or those mini Ritz cracker sandwiches with fake peanutbutter filling. Blech.

Week 4
Day 23 to the end of cycle
Today’s hormone-cast: You may spend more time fretting about upcoming events, like tax day, a dental appointment or a business trip. Blame for the extra anxiety goes to plunging estrogen, which brings down mood stabilizing serotonin as it descends. Deep breathing, visualizing your happy place and chamomile tea help quell the panic. If calories aren’t a concern, then downing some frozen yogurt or cookies is calming, too, thanks to a combination of fat and carbs that lift serotonin levels.
