Which week are you on in your cycle?

Week 1
First day of period to Day 7
Today’s hormonescope: You’re ready to give something or someone a second chance today. That’s because rising estrogen is boosting your optimism and making it oh-so-easy to forget why you nearly ditched the school, left the job or gave your sweetie the boot!

Week 2
Day 8 to Day 13
Today’s hormonescope: You’re in a jokey mood today as high estrogen and testosterone bring out your funnybone. Thing is, these high hormones are also making you more impulsive and confident, a combination that can easily spur you to make jokes that are either a bit racy or a tad insulting. Tell them to the wrong person and you could lose your friend, your job or your special customer discount. The lesson here: Before saying something you know will be super-funny today, try to take a moment to think if it could also be taken the wrong way by the wrong person.

Week 3
Day 14 (or ovulation) to Day 22
Today’s hormonescope: You may be tempted to supersize food purchases today, for instance, opt for the larger latte, add extra pizza toppings or get the 16-piece truffle box instead of your usual 8. The reason for your ample appetite? Put the blame squarely on rising progesterone, which makes the idea of downing more of anything scrumptious waaaay better than sticking to some stupid ol’ diet or health plan.

Week 4
Day 23 to the end of cycle
Today’s hormonescope: You may notice more details today, like sleet hitting the window pane as you try to sleep, grooves in the road as you drive, the black pepper in your whole grain crackers or the way a friend uses the phrase “you know” a lot. The reason? Plunging estrogen is making you more easily annoyed by things around you, so little details stand out more than they would on rising estrogen days.
