My Hormonology

Which week are you on in your cycle?

Week 1
First day of period to Day 7
Today’s hormonescope: Warning: You may end up arriving late to an appointment, submitting work after its deadline or flubbing another time-sensitive task. The reason? Even though rising estrogen and testosterone are pumping up your energy and stamina, making you do things a bit faster than last week, they’re also pumping up your optimism. And that means you could end up understimating how long it takes to drive somewhere or get something done or that you feel sure you can fit in one, two or three more tasks before you finally get to the one you need to do.

Week 2
Day 8 to Day 13
Today’s hormonescope: There are going to be moments today when you want your music loud, your car to drive fast, your food super spicy, your dance club to be wall-to-wall crowded and whatever else you’re doing to be waaaay more exciting. That’s because high estrogen and testosterone are revving up your desire to be over-stimulated. Enjoy it now because when Week 3 rolls around, rising progesterone makes you prefer the quiet hush of a library over a thrill ride!

Week 3
Day 14 (or ovulation) to Day 22
Today’s hormonescope: Your credit cards get a breather today. As progesterone rises, it makes you more cautious about spending and more concerned about saving. As a result, you may use more coupons, skip unnecessary indulgences and urge your honey to reel in the spending, too. If you do need to purchase an item, say, a space heater or a new computer to replace one that just imploded, try logging on to cheapism.com, which finds the best quality products that cost the least based on professional and user reviews.

Week 4
Day 23 to the end of cycle
Today’s hormonescope: You may feel unappreciated for all that you do for your family, friends, boss or teacher. It’s quite possible that everyone is showing you the same amount of appreciation they did when you were in the first half of your cycle, however, today’s plunging estrogen is making you more apt to see the world with a critical eye and, therefore, more likely to notice when folks don’t say “thank you” or “good job” instead of when they do.
