First day of period to Day 7
Today’s hormonescope: Even if you’re in the midst of a crisis, it’s easier to see the light at the end of the tunnel today. That’s because rising estrogen and testosterone are giving you more hope and optimism to believe that, whatever jam you’re in, it’ll all be okay in the end. And, hey, it may even turn out to be a useful experience you can channel into a novel, painting or song.
Day 8 to Day 13
Today’s hormonescope: Flirting and seeing secret crushes is on your mind today as high estrogen puts romance front and center and high testosterone pushes you to get physically intimate. This means you’ll likely dab on more makeup than you usually do, put on your most flattering clothes and be on the lookout for eligible hotties!
Day 14 (or ovulation) to Day 22
Today’s hormonescope: Motivation can get easily sapped today by rising progesterone, a particularly sedating hormone, and declining estrogen and testosterone, which robs you of the easy oomph you enjoyed during the first half of your cycle. So, if you’re in the middle of a project, holiday shopping or other task you really need to get done, have motivators ready to turn to the moment you feel your focus and drive slipping away. For me, I get re-motivated with fast-paced music (studies show it revs your heart beat and mood) and one of those 100-calorie cans of Coke (don’t overdo it on the sugar, but a little caffeine and sugar can refuel your brain in minutes).
Day 23 to the end of cycle
Today’s hormonescope: Your inner perfectionist may come out today, which means you may not be 100% happy with a job your handyman did, a project your coworker completed or the present your partner gave you. They may have all had good intentions and thought they did the best job they could, but with your estrogen on the downswing, you’re more focused on the even better job they could have done.
